Dear Family,
Flat Stanley will be mailed Monday. Please warn your
friend or family member he will be arriving shortly. Typically, people send him
back with pictures and a story about what he did in their community. They often
tell about the weather, local interests, landforms, celebrations/events,
adventures he went on while he was there, etc. Some send back brochures or
items that show how their community is special. Stanley has even come back with
extra clothes. Tell them to just have fun with him. They are due back Nov. 8th
so we can share them on Grandparent’s Day. There are some details and
directions in the letters the students wrote, but I wanted to let you know as
well in case questions arose.
Monday we go to Foster Woods from 9 to 11. You are
welcome to join us. We will leave around 8:45AM. Please dress your child for
the weather and have them wear pants and tennis shoes.
Next Wednesday is an early out. We will do tye-dye T-shirts
on Thursday.
All autobiographies should be completed, please check
with your child to see if they still need to finish theirs. I believe there are
7 that are not finished.
Most of our reading groups have been focusing on fluency
and comprehension. Now that the students can decode, they need to focus on
their rate of speed. They should sound fluent and smooth when they read, not
like a robot. Some of our group books are
little easier so they don’t have to focus on decoding and can practice
increasing their rate. Others already read fluently and with good expression,
so we are focusing on comprehension. It is important they understand what they have read.
Thank you for supporting your child with their at home
reading as well as math homework. The homework helps to reinforce the skills
taught in class.
Have a great weekend! Go
Hawks and Mid-Prairie!!
