FYI

Dear Families,
Welcome to third grade! You have wonderful children. This is going to be a great year!
Much of our communication regarding upcoming dates will be done via your child’s planner. The students record events or expectations in their planner to share with you. I will also email as necessary (or give paper copies to those that prefer paper).
Friday, the students wrote their first family letter. The expectation is that someone in the family writes a note or letter back to the student. It’s like parent homework.
Starting tomorrow, September 1st, the students will read at recess if their planner is not signed indicating s/he read 20 or more mins at home. Research has shown daily reading improves reading skills. You can ask your student to retell what they read or make connections to what they read. It will help increase their comprehension.
There may be homework, please check their red folder or backpack. We will be completing math homelinks in the morning, if it is not completed in the morning, it will be sent home to be finished. There are also some papers that make connections to reading that may be sent home to be completed as homework.
September 24th will be our Tye Dye Day. We will be coloring the t-shirts. If you are able to help, please let me know. We will be doing ours at 12:30. Your child will need their white t-shirt before September 14th so we can tie the rubber bands to them.
September 24th we will be going to Foster Woods after lunch for a field trip. I will send more information later regarding this trip.
I really enjoyed my first week with your child. I emailed this same paper home, if you did not get one, I may not have your email. Please write it in your child’s planner. Have a great week!!

It is my goal to update it often with pictures and FYI notes.

Readers theater

We have been practicing our fluency through repeated readings and readers theater. Today, we practiced as a group-choral rwading.
